Escort Cosworth Rally Car Bodywork Repair
This was a really interesting job, the owner brought the car to us following a rear near side tyre blow out at just over 120 mph during a track session at Silverstone. needless to say the damage caused by the tyre as the rubber stripped away from the wire was extensive to say the least.
The damage included the rear quarter panel, sill, wheel arch lining and rear bumper, which in itself would not be too much of a problem if parts were readily available, which they are not!
Some of the parts would be transferable from the road going version of the car but certain bits like the actual rear quarter panel are no longer made and stocks have run very low forcing the prices right up. We managed to source a couple of suppliers that had the correct part in stock but the prices were ridiculous. The problem was that the rally version of the car has rear arches that are blown out wider than the road going version and so we could not just use the standard panel as it comes. Following much discussion with the owner and after telling him of the costs involved with purchasing the part we decided to fabricate one ourselves using a normal road going panel as the starting point.
Once we had fabricated a matching panel we prepped, assembled and pained the vehicle ready to pass back to the owner, and we would hope that you agree that you could not tell with the finished vehicle.

Fibreglass Bodywork repair on a Cobra
This was an insurance approved repair on a very special Cobra that has had a small rear end collision, being a fibreglass body however made it an interesting job worth talking about here.
As you can see from the gallery of images below when the car was brought to us the main impact had been taken in the rear offside tail and had caused damage to the wing, boot floor panel, rear bumper and rear panel below the boot lid.
Once we got the vehicle stripped out we removed all areas affected by the accident leaving only the undamaged parts of rear end. once we had done this we took a replacement rear end and cut it down so that we could fit it in place and bond it back to the rest of the body making the car whole again. when the bonding process was complete we sanded the joints back to make the repair flawless and prepped the vehicle for painting and then the final part of the process was to paint the vehicle matching up to the amazing colour and stripes of the rest of the body.

Bodywork Repair and Car Respray
Don’t ever let it be said that we only work on classic and high end sports cars, as a bodywork repair and car respray garage we undertake all sorts of work on all sorts of vehicles.
This week we had a young lady bring in her first car, she is only 18 and about to undertake a week long intensive driving course, with the looming new driving licence she had decided to go ahead and purchase her first car, a 2002 Ford Ka.
When she found this vehicle she was taken by its low mileage and colour but unfortunately there were a few scratches to the front and rear bumpers and passenger door so she was recommended to bring the car to us to sort out the bodywork for her. We prepared and re-painted the affected areas bringing the car back up to the standard she required.
Now that we had the car looking fantastic for her she also requested that we give the vehicle a road worthiness check to ensure that everything was working as it should be and the car was safe for her to drive. We inspected the vehicle and took it out for a road test to ensure everything was functioning as it should be and the vehicle was safe for her to use, then handed her the keys to her new car.
I am sure she will be very excited about the prospect of driving it in 2 weeks should she pass her test, Good luck Paige from all of us here, as you can see from the pictures below the car looked great when we handed it back to her.
Mazda RX8 Engine Repair
Earlier this month we were brought this 2005 Mazda RX8 with only 19,000 miles on the clock. Unfortunately even with very low mileage the car was a complete non runner and we were asked to investigate why and if possible fix it.
We ran a full diagnostic and leak off tests to the rotary Wankle engine and discovered the problems which when we had addressed them fixed the problem allowing us to pass the car back to the customer in full working order again.
Aston Martin DB9 Repair
This Aston Martin DB9 repair was brought to us by a referred customer with a misfire and in need of the front grille refurbishing as it had faded over the years.
firstly we tackled the mechanical issues with the car by performing a full diagnostic health check on the vehicle. The health check uncovered the reason for the misfire and also highlighted that the rear brakes needed replacing and the gearbox was also in need of a service. So using all genuine Aston Martin parts and approved fluids etc we set about servicing the gearbox, changing the rear brakes and repairing the engine fault before we moved on to the restoration of the front grille.
As you can see from the images below we had to remove the grill piece by piece before we could get the parts refurbished by having them shot blasted and powder coated before we re-fitted them to the car.
The owner was absolutely over the moon with the vehicle when we returned it to him a couple of days later running perfectly and with a shiny new grille.
Chrysler Crossfire removal of front headlight fogging
Here we were brought a Chrysler Crossfire which had a few minor dents and front headlight fogging that the owner wanted removed.
We managed to repair the dents to the vehicle using a paintless technique which was far cheaper than a full prep and respray of the affected areas and the owner was more than happy with both the finish and cost of that part of the repair.
The vehicle was also suffering from front headlight fogging meaning that the light lenses were dull and faded, we were asked if there was anything that could be done apart from replacing the units to make them clear again, we advised that this type of fogging can be removed by cutting back the surface of the light lense and then applying a solution that re-coats the lenses making them appear clear again. The client asked us to also make this repair at the same time which we did, then releasing the car back to its owner dentless and with clear headlights once again.
If you have a vehicle in need of any type of repair then why not contact us today to see what can be done to rectify it, it does not always require a full prep and respray or replacement parts to achieve the results you require. In the meantime why not check out some of teh other work that we have done in our project blog.
Austin Healey Respray Project
After many happy years of ownership and much use the owner of this vehicle decided to sell, however when it was placed in a classic car auction the car failed to achieve his required selling price, rather than sell this car for a much reduced price the owner decided to refresh the paintwork and ready the car for sale.
Once his decision had been made the owner was referred to us to get the vehicle bodywork improved. After a consultation we advised that in order to revive the paintwork to its original condition it would require all imperfections removing via a full external body prep and then given a full respray to bring the original look of the car back to life.
As you can see from the pictures, when finished, the car looked amazing and sold for more than he was expecting in the first sale it was entered into.
Since the new owner has taken possession of the car he also has been in touch with us to use our services.
Aston Martin V8 Vantage Repair
This weekend we undertook a quick repair on this beautiful Aston Martin V8 Vantage. The car was brought to us with a loose roll bar cover situated in the leather dome behind the drivers seat, the customer also told us that he could hear a rattling when he folds and puts up the electric roof.
When we had the car on site we immediately set to removing the cover to see what was going on underneath, once we had located all the relevant screws holding the cover in place we removed it to discover that a couple of the retaining screws that hold the electable part of the cover (The bit that actually allows the roll bars to be deployed) were missing. After much fishing around inside the lid with a magnet we managed to recover the screws and refit the cover in place properly.
We quickly put everything back together again and gave the car a quick clean to ensure the owner would be extra happy when he came to collect the vehicle a bit later that morning.
The customer was over the moon about both the time it had taken and the cost as it seems we are somewhat less expensive than an Aston Martin dealership.
Diagnose and repair of Range Rover steering column
With this Range Rover Steering column repair we firstly had to identify the reason behind the steering columns lack of movement. On this Vogue model the Range Rover has an electrically adjustable steering column that allows you to set the steering wheel position, when you turn off the engine the wheel retracts automatically right back to the dashboard allowing easy exit and entry, when you start the engine again the wheel returns to your preferred pre-set position automatically.
Upon investigation we found that the thread in the plastic mounting had been completely worn away, when checking with Range Rover for parts we discovered that a replacement would cost over £1500.00 and so we had a replacement part fabricated in aluminium (shown in the image alongside the worn plastic part) for a fraction of the cost and returned the car to the customer with a fully functioning steering column.
